Leasing of City Property
The City of North Richland Hills had worked to identify and lease City-owned land that may be used for natural gas production. The leases were issued to companies based on their reputation, financial ability to provide services, safety record and history of complying with government regulations. Any company leasing City-owned minerals is required to obtain a permit for gas drilling, provide liability insurance, and comply with state and federal regulations and City ordinances. If and when drilling takes place, the City will inspect the site on a regular basis to ensure it is safe and operating properly.
The City Council has approved mineral leases for city owned property at the following locations:
- Northfield Park
- Richfield Park
- Linda Spurlock Park
- Fossil Creek Park
- Green Valley Park
- Cross Timbers Park
- JB Sandlin Park
- Little Bear Creek Park
- Municipal Complex off Mid Cities Blvd
- Municipal property around Walker Creek
At this time, the only city owned property where drilling may occur is Little Bear Creek Park. Gas deposits under other city owned property will be reached through horizontally drilling.
Revenues generated by the mineral leases for City property will be used by the City for public projects and services benefiting all residents of North Richland Hills.
