Quiet Zones
The City of North Richland Hills is continuing to examine the environmental impact statement for the Southwest to Northeast Rail Corridor Study for bringing commuter rail through our community. The City is in support of bringing rail service to North Richland Hills to allow for better access for residents and employees, but is sensitive to any negative impacts and will be filing a formal statement prior to the end of the environmental impact review period in December 2008. Primary environmental impacts in North Richland Hills involve potential noise from train horns at roadway crossings. As a result of several homes in NRH backing to the rail line and concerns over the noise from train horns, the City of North Richland Hills will be pursuing "quiet zone" designations throughout the City. This will require updating and securing roadway crossings, but will allow trains to move through the City with limited train horn noise.
