Board of Adjustment


Powers and Duties The Board of Adjustment shall have the powers and exercise the duties of a Board in accordance with Section 211.009 of the Texas Local Government Code. Board members are representatives of the City and shall have the right to inspect premises where required in the discharge of their responsibilities under the laws of the State of Texas and the Ordinances of the City of North Richland Hills The Board's jurisdiction shall extend to and include the hearing and deciding of the following topics of appeals and applications and to that end shall have the necessary authority to insure continuing compliance with its decision. The Board of Adjustment, in specific cases, may authorize or order the following:
  1. Interpretation
  2. Permits for Nonconformities
  3. Discontinuance of Nonconformities
  4. Variances
No variance shall be granted except on the concurring vote of seventy-five percent of the members of the Board.

Appeals from the action of this Board are not taken to the City Council. The only appeal is by petition to the appropriate court of record. The City Attorney defends the actions of the Board.

Meetings Last Thursday night of the month, 7:00 p.m. (If there is a pending case). Average case load is about one case per month.
Method of Appointment By majority vote of the City Council.
