Park and Recreation Board


Powers and Duties This Board shall act in an advisory capacity to advise the City Council and City Manager concerning the acquisition, development, maintenance and use of parks, playgrounds and open spaces in the City and shall conduct its business at such times and under such rules and regulations as it may prescribe. It shall be the duty of the Board to make continuous study of the needs of the City for the establishment of public parks and recreation facilities, to investigate and recommend the locations or sites at which public parks and recreation facilities should be made available within the municipal limits, suggest means of acquiring and developing such facilities and furnish the City Council and City Manager with over-all plans for development and improvement of all such facilities and to report to the City Council and City Manager the results of its studies, recommendations, and plans. In the performance of these duties said Board shall act in an advisory capacity. The Board shall have no authority to spend nor to commit the City to the expenditure of any funds or monies, except under the specific authorization and direction of the City Council and City Manager.
Number of Members Seven Members, One Alternate
Term Two Year Terms. Those persons appointed to odd numbered places terms expire in June of odd numbered years, and those persons appointed to even numbered places terms expire in June of even numbered years.
Meetings First Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Method of Appointment City Council Member elected to the City Council Place corresponding to the board member's number shall be responsible for nominating the person to serve in such place. Mayor responsible for nomination of the alternate. Nominations subject to approval of majority of the City Council.
