    WHAT IS CERT?

CERT is the Community Emergency Response Team. A group of volunteers trained specifically to be able to function as first responders during a disaster until professional fire, police, and EMS units arrive on the scene which could range from a few minutes to a hours.

CERT training promotes a partnership between emergency service providers and the community they serve. Emergency responders will be the instructors for CERT training. CERT members are then worked into the emergency response matrix of the City of North Richland Hills and will be utilized as such.

If a disaster or emergency strikes North Richland Hills and overwhelms or delays emergency responders, CERT members will be activated by the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). CERT members will apply their skills to help save and sustain lives until help arrives. CERT members will serve in a variety of disaster roles including:

  • Search & Rescue
  • Medical Triage and Treatment
  • Fire Suppression
  • Debris Clearance
  • Firefighter Rehab
  • Scene Security
  • Damage Assessment
  • Donations Management
  • Lost Child Search
  • EOC Assistance
  • Public Education
  •

    CERT TRAINING

Potential CERT members will be trained to a level of proficiency where they and their instructors feel comfortable in placing them in emergency situations. Members will be required to complete all aspects of the training even if they have no interest in serving in that capacity while on the team. As this is a team, everyone must be trained to the same level.
