For over 40 years the City of North Richland Hills Park and Recreation Board has acted in an advisory capacity to advise the City Council and City Manager concerning the acquisition, development, maintenance and use of parks, playgrounds and open spaces in the City. It is the duty of the Board to make continuous study of the needs of the City for the establishment of public parks and recreation facilities, to investigate and recommend the locations or sites at which public parks and recreation facilities be made available within the municipal limits, suggest means of acquiring and developing such facilities to furnish the City Council and City Management with over-all plans for development and improvement of such facilities to report to the City Council and City Manager the results of studies, recommendations and plans.
The Park and Recreation Board has seven members and one alternate that each serve two year terms, without compensation. The Park and Recreation Board meetings are held the first Monday of every other month at 6:00 p.m. in Pre-Council Chambers at City Hall.
The Park and Recreation Board members are appointed by the City Council, and a person must be a resident of the City of North Richland Hills to serve the board.
Message from Ms. Kusmierski
There is something for everyone to do in our North Richland Hills Park System and
all of the wonderful facilities.
Have you seen the kinetic art in Clyde Zellers Park? Have you trekked though the
deep woods in Cross Timbers Park and Fossil Creek Park? Have you fiercely pedaled
your bike along the Cotton Belt Trail – trying hard to race alongside the old train?
Did you watch your favorite soccer player head the ball into the goal at Green Valley
Park? Did you hear the ping of the baseball as it flew off the bat and sailed into the
outfield at Walker’s Creek Park?
Has NRH20’s Purplepalooza and Frogstein’s Splashatory been your salvation on a hot summer
night? Did you get up and dance at the Sounds of Spring Concerts? Was it belly dancing,
fencing, karate, Yoga, Tai Chi, or step-aerobics class that you signed up to enjoy at the
Recreation Center? Did you play bingo, bunco, and bridge at the Dan Echols or Bursey Road
Senior Centers?
Did you hunt Easter eggs in the park, see Santa at a Night of Holiday Magic or snap photos
as your dolled up little girl and her handsome father drove off to the Daddy Daughter Dance?
From tiny tots to our esteemed seniors, from lone walkers on the paved trails to organized
volleyball competitors at the Recreation Center, from parenting classes to salsa dancing,
the many talented people who work in the North Richland Hills Parks and Recreation Department
have done an outstanding job of providing great recreation opportunities for everyone in NRH
to keep fit, be happy, stay active and be positively entertained.
Just think, there are so many NRH parks that if you take your family to different park just
once a week, you’ll have almost a half of a year’s worth of entertainment right here in our city!
And soon we’ll have a brand new, state-of-the-art recreation center that will knock your socks
off! Life is good in North Richland Hills! It is my pleasure to serve on the Park and Recreation
Board and witness first hand our talented staff that keeps producing facilities and providing
activities that make this city great.
See you on the trails,
Marty Kusmierski
Chairman
NRH Park and Recreation Board
