Crime Prevention Safety Tips

Vehicle Burglary - A Crime of Opportunity

The metroplex is currently seeing an increase in the number of vehicle burglaries. Vehicle Burglary is most often a crime of opportunity. The thieves are gaining entry into the vehicle by either unlocked doors or smashing a window. Items taken in some of these burglaries are laptop computers, GPS units, i-PODS, construction tools, and other items left in plain view. If possible, please remove any valuables from your vehicle while the vehicle is out of your sight, especially during the night time hours. If expensive items are not removable, try parking in a garage or behind a fenced area to reduce the chances of becoming a victim. Also, write down the make, model, and serial numbers on all your valuables if ever needed for future reference. Minimize your chances of being a victim by taking away the opportunity and always report any suspicious activity to the North Richland Hills Police Department at 817-427-7000.

Become an active part of your neighborhood safety by starting or joining a Neighborhood Crime Watch Program. For information about Neighborhood Crime Watch programs, contact the North Richland Hills Police Department Community Services Section at 817-427-7021.
