Tipps Canine Hollow Now Open

The City of North Richland Hills celebrated the grand opening of Tipps Canine Hollow dog park on June 17. The new park is located within Northfield Park at 7804 Davis Boulevard. Hours are 8 a.m. to dusk daily.

Tipps Canine Hollow is designed to provide a safe environment for pet owners to unleash their dogs and let them exercise and socialize freely without disrupting the activities of others. The park includes a 2-acre fenced area for large dogs and 1-acre fenced area for small dogs. The park also offers water stations, dog waste stations, plenty of open space to run, and shady areas for relaxing.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the dog park, and children under 7 are not allowed in the large dog area. Click here to view and print park rules. These rules are posted near the park's entry gates.

During the grand opening, residents and their four-legged friends enjoyed tail wagging festivities and fun. Events included the "Waltz to Tipps Hollow" Walk-A-Thon benefiting the NRH Animal Adoption & Rescue Center, agility course demonstrations and a doggie mall with pet products and services. A special highlight of the morning was the ribbon cutting, which was performed by a 5 and a half year old yellow lab named Buddy.

The new park was also dedicated in honor of Don and Doris Tipps and their family. Both Mr. and Mrs. Tipps are retired educators. Don is a past chairman of the North Richland Hills Parks and Recreation Board and Doris serves on the Keep NRH Beautiful Committee. Their daughter, Tracye Tipps, has been a guiding force in development of the dog park.

Funding for Tipps Canine Hollow was made possible by the half-cent sales tax for parks and recreation approved by North Richland Hills voters in 1992.
