The Texas Music Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit initiative of the Social
Marketing Resource Center in conjunction with the Texas music industry
and the State of Texas, the Texas Music Educators Association, the Texas
Commission on the Arts, and the Texas Coalition for Quality Arts Education.
The primary mission of TMP is to help strengthen and restore rigorous
music education to Texas schools. Our objectives are to raise awareness
of the benefits of music education and the related needs of schools; build
capacity and funding for music education in local communities and schools; and enable more informed decision-making among decision makers at both the state and local levels.
TMP capitalizes on the popularity of Texas music, the generosity of the
Texas music community, and Texas pride to more meaningfully engage
the communities, companies and the media regarding music education.
TMP conducts the "Don't Mess with Texas Music" public awareness and
education program which includes our exclusive series of CDs; distributes grants for music education to schools and communities in need; consults
and plans with local communities to build longer-term programs to sustain music education in schools; and creates customized events and programs
for companies interested in supporting music education while building their brands through Texas music marketing.
All four volumes of the “Don’t Mess with Texas Music” CDs will be sold at
this year’s concert series. TMP has agreed to donate half of the proceeds
generated by CD sales at this year’s concerts to Birdville I.S.D. to be used
for music programming in the schools.
