Driving Safety Course

A driving safety course can be taken to keep a violation off your record. Eligibility requirements include:
  • A valid Texas driver's license or military identification
  • Current proof of Texas liability insurance
  • You are not currently taking a defensive driving course for a traffic violation in another court
  • You have not taken a defensive driving class within the last 12 months for a citation
The following offenses do not qualify you for a driving safety course:
  • Fleeing police
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Moving violation issued in a construction zone with workers present
  • Passing a stopped school bus
  • Penal code or city ordinance violations
  • Speeding 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit
If you are eligible to take a Driving Safety Course and your request to do so is approved by the Judge, successful completion of the program may keep the traffic offense from being reported on your driving record. You must complete paperwork at the Court to be approved by the Judge PRIOR to taking any classes.
