July 6, 2022 Post

Weather permitting, targeted ground-level spraying for mosquitoes will take place this evening (Wednesday, July 6, 2022) in one area of North Richland Hills where mosquito samples tested positive for West Nile Virus. Spraying will begin at around 8:40 p.m. The area is east of Smithfield, south of Starnes / Rumfield and north of Mid Cities as shown on the map below.

between Mid Cities and Rumfield, east of Smithfield To prevent the overuse of pesticides in our community, spraying is limited to areas where mosquito-borne virus is detected. Mosquito samples from across the city are tested weekly as part of the Tarrant County Mosquito Surveillance Program. Residents who are signed up for alerts from the city will receive phone / text notifications when there will be spraying in their neighborhood. If you have not already signed up, you can do so at https://www.nrhtx.com/141/Emergency-Alerts. When you sign up for alerts from the city, you can also opt-in to receive automated severe weather alerts from the National Weather Service.

While spraying in public rights of way can somewhat reduce the number of mosquitoes in a given area, the results are only temporary. The reduction, elimination, or treatment of mosquito breeding areas is the best technique for mosquito control. Please use our backyard checklist to drain standing water and eliminate mosquito breeding sites on your property: https://nrhtx.com/DocumentCenter/View/9190/Backyard-Checklist.

So far during the 2022 mosquito season in NRH, 1 sample has tested positive for West Nile virus and 84 samples were negative. Protect yourself from West Nile Virus and other diseases transmitted by mosquitoes by wearing mosquito repellent whenever you spend time outdoors.
