Winter is the perfect season to curl up with a good book, so we are excited to announce that the NRH Library's Winter Reading Challenge is returning by popular demand! Here's how it works: visit the library from Nov. 30 to Jan. 31 to pick up your Winter Reading Challenge bookmark. Then, read five books of your choice and participate in two library activities. Once you have completed the challenge, return the bookmark to the library and enter a drawing for one of three gift baskets, each filled with cozy goodies for children, teenagers, or adults. We hope you'll join us in enjoying some great books this winter!

Holiday Giving Opportunities

If you’re wanting to help local families in need this holiday season, consider making a donation to our Heroes & Helpers event, Toy & Food Drive or the Mayoral Red Kettle Challenge.

Heroes & Helpers

The North Richland Hills Police Department is excitedly preparing for the annual Heroes and Helpers event that is hosted in early December in partnership with Gateway Church, NRH. The yearly event honors child victims of crime from the NRH community by showing them love and support around the holiday season. The children and their guardians are treated to an evening with NRH police and fire staff members and receive dinner, gifts, activities, and a visit with Santa. You can join alongside the NRHPD Victim Assistance team in supporting the children through your gift of sponsorship. The cost of sponsoring one child is $100, but no amount is too small! If you’re interested in sponsoring a child, please reach out to the Community Resources Division at 817-427-7021.

Fire Department Toy & Food Drive

New, unwrapped toys and boxed or canned food can be dropped off at any NRH Fire Station or the Public Safety lobby at City Hall from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Donations are given to the Community Enrichment Center who distributes them to needy families in the community.

Red Kettle Challenge

Mayor Oscar Trevino is competing against mayors of other area cities to see who can raise the most money for the Salvation Army this holiday season. If you would like help, you can donate through the Mayor’s virtual red kettle link. Helpers will also be ringing the bell at some of our local stores on Saturday, Dec. 9. All donations help the Salvation Army assist local families in need at Christmas time and throughout the year. Learn more.

Whether you give to one of these charities or another of your choosing, we thank you for giving back to the community!
