Drone Deliveries

Wing drone delivery service

At Monday's meeting, the City Council approved a request from Wing Aviation to begin a one-year pilot program for drone delivery services at the Walmart Supercenters on NE Loop 820 and North Tarrant Parkway in NRH. The City Council's consideration was limited to Wing’s landing pad and surface operations, since the FAA regulates airspace operations once a drone is airborne.

Wing already has approval from the FAA to operate drones in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to deliver packaged goods to customers. The company currently operates in Frisco and Lewisville. North Richland Hills will be their first location in Tarrant County. Worldwide, Wing has successfully performed over 350,000 deliveries.

Wing's drones will travel at a height of 150 feet, are no louder than a passing car, and have numerous safety features built in. They will deliver to homes located up to 6 miles from each store. The company could begin operations as early as March.

Drone Deliveries Proposed in NRH

A new type of delivery service is proposed for North Richland Hills. Wing Aviation is seeking to expand its drone delivery service to our community. If approved, North Richland Hills would be the first city in Tarrant County where Wing operates and the fourth in North Texas. Wing started providing drone delivery services in Frisco and Little Elm in 2022 and Lewisville in 2023.

Public hearings will be held before the NRH Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council regarding Wing’s landing pad and surface operations. The hearings will be limited to what the city can regulate, since the FAA regulates airspace operations once a drone is airborne. Wing already has approval from the FAA to operate drones in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex to deliver packaged goods to customers.

Public hearings will take place in the City Council Chamber, 3rd floor of City Hall and will be streamed online

  • 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 15, Planning & Zoning Commission Meeting
  • 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, City Council Meeting
