[ARCHIVED] Davis & Mid Cities Improvements

Road Work Ahead Sign

June 14, 2019 Update

Improvements by the Texas Department of Transportation at the Davis and Mid Cities intersection are complete and all lanes are now open. The intersection has new dual left turn lanes and dedicated right turn lanes to increase capacity and improve overall traffic flow. NRH Public Works will closely monitor signal timing at the intersection and make any necessary adjustments to ensure it is operating efficiently. Street name signs will be installed next week.

Nightly lane closures continue on portions of Davis Boulevard between Maplewood and Starnes for a mill and overlay project by TxDOT.

April 12, 2019 Update

Stay alert on Monday and Tuesday for a traffic switch at the Davis / Mid-Cities intersection. Traffic on Davis will be shifted to the outside lanes allowing the TxDOT contractor to build new center medians. NRH Police will be present during the switch to support intersection operations while traffic signal equipment is adjusted. During this process there may also be some temporary lane closures on Mid Cities and Davis.

Also starting next week, expect nightly lane closures on Davis Boulevard between Maplewood and Starnes for a mill and overlay project by TxDOT. The work is expected to take place after 7 p.m. and wrap up before 6 a.m.

Please slow down, watch for workers and pay extra attention when traveling in these areas.

March 15, 2019 Update

Stay alert next week for a traffic switch at the Davis / Mid-Cities intersection.  Eastbound Mid-Cities traffic will be shifted onto new pavement beginning Tuesday, March 19 at 9 a.m.  Look out for lane closures on Mid-Cities beginning on Monday in preparation for the switch. NRH Police will be present during the switch to support intersection operations while the traffic signal equipment is adjusted.

November 24, 2018 Update

Look for a change in traffic pattern at the intersection of Mid Cities Boulevard and Davis Boulevard beginning Monday, November 26. Traffic on Mid Cities will be shifting north to the newly constructed lanes, so that the TxDOT contractor can begin work on the southwest corner of the intersection. The westbound lanes on Mid Cities are expected to shift on Monday and the eastbound lanes are expected to shift on Wednesday. Please slow down, watch for workers and pay extra attention when traveling in this area.

August 15, 2018 Update

Expect changes at the Davis and Mid Cities intersection today as TxDOT's contractor finishes up construction in front of Walgreens and begins work on the north side of the intersection, which includes closing the right southbound lane. Please slow down, allow yourself extra time and watch for workers when traveling through this area.

May 25, 2018 Update

TxDOT has indicated that their road construction contractor will be back to work at the Davis / Mid Cities intersection in June. Thank you for your continued patience during this project.

May 7, 2018 Update

Several people have asked about the status of the Davis / Mid Cities intersection project. Unfortunately, the contractor had a conflict with an unknown Atmos Energy gas line. The gas line is having to be relocated by Atmos. Because of safety concerns the contractor has had to pull off of the project until the gas line work is complete.

Original Post - November 27, 2017

Construction begins this week at the intersection of Davis Boulevard (FM 1938) and Mid Cities Boulevard for a TxDOT project to widen and improve the roadway. When completed, there will be dual dedicated left center turn lanes in each direction, as well as a dedicated right turn lane for each leg of the intersection.

The dual left turn lanes will allow more vehicles to turn left during a shorter time period. The time saved on the left turns will allow more “green” time for the Davis and Mid-Cities traffic lanes continuing through the intersection not turning. Overall the intersection will be more efficient.

This project has been in the planning and development stage for approximately 10 years. We had hoped this project would be completed already, however there were delays in getting it ready for construction. A $3.7 million federal grant for the project came with a lengthy environmental and design review process and the federal and state review process took longer than anticipated.

Motorists should expect various lane closures during the project, which is anticipated to to be complete in Spring 2019. Please slow down and watch for workers when traveling in this area.
