[ARCHIVED] Northfield Park

Ribbon cutting

North Richland Hills celebrated the re-opening of Northfield Park with a ribbon cutting on Saturday, September 29, 2018 following an extensive 10-month park renovation. Located at 7804 Davis Boulevard, Northfield is one of the city's four original parks, having opened in 1985.

The sprawling 29-acre park provides a variety of both active and passive recreational activities through updated park amenities including lighted softball fields, sand volleyball courts, lighted tennis courts, an expansive 7,700-square-foot playground for 3-12 year olds, basketball court, small and large group picnic pavilions, trails, landscaping, picnic tables, new restrooms, benches and other infrastructure.

Vickie Loftice, Managing Director of Community Services, said the renovation of Northfield Park was an important project for the city.  “The reimagining of the park was an exciting opportunity to continue to invest in existing infrastructure and create spaces for citizens to enjoy in a variety of ways for years to come,” Ms. Loftice said. “It was important for us to take a look at how to integrate multiple types of amenities for all ages and abilities to use.”

Public input was important in determining how the park would be redeveloped. The renovation was funded by the half-cent sales tax for park development, park impact fees paid by new development, a $500,000 grant from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission and a $150,000 grant from the Barfield Family Foundation.
